Two commercial vehicle incidents close Hwy 5

By Spencer Hall

Valemount RCMP say that two commercial vehicle incidents caused a closure of Highway 5 on February 20th.

Cpl. Nicholas Theoret with the Valemount RCMP told The Goat the Valemount police responded to a report of a commercial vehicle and trailer that jackknifed about 40 km south of Valemount, blocking the highway’s northbound lane about 38 km north of Blue River between Lempriere Bridge and Moonbeam Bridge.

“The driver advised that they had lost control of the vehicle and trailer due to icy conditions on the highway causing his vehicle to partially slide into the ditch with the trailer still on the highway” Theoret said.

While officers were on scene of the incident, a second commercial vehicle attempted to go around the collision, but ended up going too far onto the shoulder of the road and rolled into the ditch of the southbound lane.

No injuries have been reported as a result of either collision.
