The Robson Valley Recreation Centre in McBride was a buzz with excitement on New Years Eve as approximately 100 people gathered to specifically support two players of Team Canada at the World Juniors.
Tanner Molendyk, #6 and Sawyer Mynio, #7. Molendyk started his hockey journey in McBride and learned how to skate in the Rec Centre. Mynio’s dad grew up in McBride and the community has embraced the young player as well.
The tournament ended early for Canada after a loss to Czechia in the quarter finals. Molendyk (left in bottom photo) was named one of Team Canada’s top three players along with Captain Brayden Yager and goalie Carter George. Following the second game of the tournament, Molendyk was named player of the game for Canada.
