The Village of Valemount’s Accessibility Committee reviewed and approved an accessibility needs survey at its November 19th meeting. The 17-question survey will likely be released in January, said Krista Etty, Land Use Planner and committee member.
The survey asks respondents if they use mobility aids, if they have encountered barriers to accessing Village-owned sites, and if there are any barriers to participating in Village-run activities, such as Council meetings. Additionally, the survey asks respondents to choose which issues make sidewalks and trails most difficult to access, such as narrow or steep ramps, overgrown plants, or a lack of curb ramps.
The survey will be available online, and paper copies will be available at the Village office, Etty said.
“The survey will give us the priorities that need to be looked at, and from there we’ll need to come up with actions, a timeline, and a budget,” she added.
