Valemount RCMP Report: November 2024

During the month of November, the Valemount RCMP responded to 57 calls for service, the following are several notable occurrences.

On the 8th of November, The Valemount RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Whiskey Fill Rd. On arrival a field sobriety test was conducted using an approved screening device was conducted and the driver, who was unlicensed at the time. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and received an immediate roadside prohibition as well as fines under the motor vehicle act for operating the vehicle without a licence.

On the 27th of November, while conducting a routine traffic stop of a vehicle with an obstructed licence plate an officer with the Valemount RCMP located a firearm on the passenger side of the vehicle. The firearm was sized as it was being stored improperly and the driver of the vehicle did not possess a valid licence to possess the firearm. The driver of the vehicle was also issued with a fine for operating a vehicle without a valid licence.

On the 28th of November, the Valemount and Jasper RCMP were both advised of a roll over collision with Semi hauling a load of Lumber near the BC Alberta Border. As it was unknown if there were any injuries both detachments responded with lights and sirens. After officers attended and were unable to locate the vehicle on either side of the border officers later learned that the complainant had mistakenly reported the incident on Highway 16 when it had occurred on Highway 2 near Dawson Creek.

On the 28th of November, the Valemount RCMP was advised of a motor vehicle collision involving a train near Moose Lake. The driver of the vehicle had driven into the ditch and ended up driving onto the CN rail tracks where his vehicle became high centered. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle prior to being hit by the train so he was not injured. During the investigation the attending officer observed signs of intoxication from the driver and conducted a field sobriety test. As a result of the test the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and received and immediate roadside prohibition.

On the 29th of November, the Valemount RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter in progress to a residence. The suspect had been removed from that residence in relation to a family disturbance late the previous night and had been advised he was not to return. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect at the residence without issues and found him in possession of items taken from the residence. The subject of this investigation has been charged with multiple criminal offences related to the occurrence and the matter is still before the courts at this time.

The Valemount RCMP would like to thank The Creekside Outreach Society for their assistance in supporting an individual who was stranded in the Valemount area and had no place to stay or money to pay for a hotel. The Creekside Outreach Society generously purchased him a bus ticket to Kamloops where he would have access to support services that would be able to assist while he was making arrangements to return to his home in Manitoba.
