Through the Lens
By Leon Lorenz
For those who missed seeing my last week’s contribution, I was filming this past fall in the Muskwa-Kechika wilderness of northern BC when this family of grizzlies advanced ever closer to me.
Generally when grizzly bears come into my space I feel less threatened by them than when I come into their space, however this time I was filming from a standing position that I almost always try to avoid. I believe from my experience of filming grizzlies for more than 30 years that the bears feel less threatened when I’m down in a low crouched position.
As they approached I was trying to read the mother grizzly’s body language as to me being in her berry patch and it appeared they were accepting me when suddenly the 3 grizzlies paused with their eyes riveted on me. Next week you will see just how unpredictable grizzly bears can be.
