The Valemount Senior Citizens Housing Society’s building on Ash Street will likely not open until December 2024 or January 2025, according to Society Administrator Rob Hennigar.
Initially scheduled for completion by this summer, supply chain issues have caused delays in the project, Society Chair Donnie MacLean told The Goat. She attributes the issues in part to COVID-19, which caused supply chain issues in multiple industries. However, MacLean said she is not concerned that the project will go over-budget.
Additionally, MacLean confirmed that TELUS is installing wirelines to the Ash Street project.
Once completed, the single-level building will have 16 one-bedroom units and two two-bedroom homes, according to a previous press release from the Ministry of Housing. The building is intended to provide affordable housing for seniors, and will include units with subsidized rent.
“It is really exciting to see the Valemount Senior Citizens Housing Society’s ongoing hard work coming to fruition,” MacLean said. “The Society is thrilled to provide this beautiful and modern addition to our existing facilities for senior citizens in the Robson Valley.”
