UPDATE: as of Saturday morning, the fire has grown to 38 hectares.
A one-hectare fire was discovered Friday evening on West Canoe Forest Service Road, near Kinbasket Lake.
The fire was discovered at about 6:42 p.m. Friday night and is suspected to have been caused by humans. The BC Wildfire Service notes that human can start wildfires in several ways — either by accident or intentionally.
BCWS is taking immediate action by countering the blaze with a full response, meaning the fire will be controlled and suppressed until it’s put out.
According to the BCWS dashboard, the fire is listed as out of control and is expected to spread. As of 8 p.m. Friday night, no evacuation alerts and orders have been issued in response to the fire. The fire is listed as fire number G32533.
