The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has issued an evacuation alert due to the wildfire located near Dunster on the south side of the Fraser River, which has grown to 15 hectares since its discovery on Friday.
The alert means property owners should be ready to leave if fire conditions worsen.
The alert is in effect for many properties along Raush Valley Road and includes properties that use the Dunster Station Road for access. A map of the alert area is included below.
The RDFFG says conditions may change unexpectedly, requiring the District to immediately evacuate the area to ensure the personal safety of residents and front line responders.
The District asks residents in the alert area to prepare themselves in case an evacuation is required and immediately take the following steps to help prevent damage to their home, property and to prepare for their personal safety:
- Gather important papers and move valuables to alternate locations;
- Make arrangements for pets to be moved to a safe location;
- If you have livestock or hobby farm animals begin making arrangements for them to go to a safe
alternative location in case an evacuation order is issued; and - Prepare a 72-hour personal emergency kit for you and your family; remember to include any
necessary medications in your kit.
The RDFFG has activated its Emergency Operations Centre and asks the public to call the centre at
