ICBC says it rejected 27 per cent of the 9,500 requested personalized license plate slogans in 2023.
Personalized plates are available in B.C. for regular passenger vehicles, vans, light trucks, motorcycles and motorhomes.
The corporation said slogans get rejected if they don’t meet guidelines and criteria, or if they’re discriminatory, sexually suggestive, abusive or derogatory in any language. The custom plates must have two to six characters with a max of seven and be in a combination that won’t cause identification issues.
Plates that didn’t make it onto the road this year include 2FAS4U, OMG MOV and DNT HIT.
ICBC’s Manager of Insurance Operations Support, Sandy-Anne Dodig said the personalized plates can be a way of expressing one’s self, but encourages drivers to review criteria and guidelines before sending in their application.
“ICBC’s dedicated team meticulously reviews every application to ensure each slogan is appropriate to display on a B.C. licence plate,” Dodig said.
A complete list of rejected plates from 2023 is available on ICBC’s website, but the corporation warns that some slogans could be offensive to some.
