Police are looking for potential witnesses of a December 2nd crash between Clearwater and Barriere that claimed the lives of two people.
According to police, at about 10:45 a.m. on December 2nd, Clearwater and Barriere RCMP responded to the incident scene in the northbound lane of Highway 5 between Barriere and Clearwater.
“Tragically, two occupants of the car were pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Corporal Mike Moore with BC Highway Patrol.
The Clearwater detachment said its initial investigation seems to indicate the commercial truck entered the oncoming traffic lane where it collided with the car.
“The roads were snowy at the time. It appears the semi crossed into the oncoming lane after coming out of a corner,” Constable James Ward with BC Highway Patrol told The Goat.
Moore said the initial investigation is focused on the driving behavior of the truck leading up to the crash.
Clearwater RCMP is conducting its investigation with assistance from members of the Barriere RCMP detachment, BC Highway Patrol’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services unit, and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement.
Sergeant Jean-Rene Michaud with the BC Highway Patrol said it would be premature to comment on the cause of the crash as the investigation is ongoing.
“The investigators are looking at all factors that lead to this collision; however impairment was ruled out,” Michaud said.
Michaud said the driver of the commercial truck was not injured in the crash.
BC Highway Patrol asks those who may have witnessed the crash, events leading up to the incident or who have dashcam video to contact the Clearwater detachment at 250-674-2237 and refer to file number 2023-4801.
