Five members of the McBride District Volunteer Fire Department visited classes at both the McBride Elementary School and Robson Valley Junior Academy on Thursday Oct 19th as a part of Fire Prevention/Safety month. Deputy Chief Courtney Lipkie said that they discussed what qualifies as a 911 emergency. They told the kids that a papercut doesn’t need a 911 call, but yes, if your leg is cut off, that is an emergency. They also reviewed who responds to what kind of call when 911 is contacted: police, fire or ambulance. “We also covered the importance of ‘Stop, Drop and Roll,” said Lipkie. The older kids also received information about the yellow “ALL CLEAR” tape that local departments have been using for several years now. “If you see a vehicle in the ditch or on the side of the road and it has the yellow “ALL CLEAR” tape wrapped around it, it has been cleared by emergency services, and a call to 911 is not needed,” explained Lipkie. /PHOTOS SUBMITTEDRelated Posts:Fire Department visits schoolFirefighters visit preschool for Fire Prevention WeekOil donationEditorial - Gratitude for fire & rescue volunteersValemount Fire Department Chief talks fire…Post navigationEmergency Services in actionValley History – Toe Nailing
