Kids in Valemount will have a new play structure in Centennial Park thanks to a $45,000 donation by Ledcor-Sicim employees.
The funding announcement was made at the Canada Day celebrations at the Valemount Museum July 1st.
Mayor Owen Torgerson told the Goat July 7th that the Village has already ordered the new playground and it should be installed sometime this fall.
While the unit isn’t a spray park, Torgerson said they are looking into a “water feature” to complement the new play structure.
“In our budget we do have a small budget for a water feature.”
To make room for the new play equipment, the old dinosaur climbing structure and the small metal slide with stairs and monkey bars will both be removed.
The merry-go-round, however, will stay.
“We like being the only municipality in BC with a merry-go-round,” Torgerson said, noting he wasn’t totally sure that was accurate – but certainly it is a rarity.
Torgerson said Ledcor-Sicim is also providing volunteers to work with the installer, and the Village will be supplying some equipment in-kind.
