Mayor Owen Torgerson called the May 23rd meeting to order. He attended the meeting via ZOOM. Councillor Donnie MacLean was not present at the meeting.
Letter to Minister of Housing
Council Pete Pearson wanted to bring attention to a letter in the reading file from the District of Coldstream. The letter was sent to the Minister of Housing as well as to many councils around the province regarding the “Homes for People” action plan. The letter asks that the Minister consider the following points: the diversity and size of communities throughout the province and their unique housing needs, the difference between rural and urban communities and their availability of infrastructure and the significant impact on existing local infrastructure capacity to service increased development and density.
Notice of Disposition
Councillor Mulyk recused himself as a part of the Valemount Senior Citizens Housing Society for the following motion. Council directed staff to enter into a lease agreement with the Valemount Senior Citizens Housing Society, for a portion of the Ash Street property. Finalizing the terms of the lease for the subdividing of the land is the next step in advancing the new seniors housing project.
Financial Statements
Council approved the Revised 2022 Consolidated Financial Statements. Following the presentation at the May 9th meeting, additional information was provided regarding the ownership of the Childcare BC New Spaces project (the daycare portion). This changed the costs being transferred from Expense to Capital Projects in Progress.
The meeting was adjourned with no public comment or in-camera meeting.
