With basically no timely rains and with high temperatures for many weeks this spring, many areas including the backcountry has been slow to green-up. With a smoke haze settling through the valley from the many distant wildfires Smokey the bear here has found a patch of new grass to enjoy for its meal. At this time the grass and other tender plants are succulent, easily digested and high in nutrients. /LEON LORENZ
