Thanks to a burgeoning pipeline worker community, Valemount has a hockey league for the first time in memory. The Valemount Co-Ed Adult Hockey league was put together by Jamie Mintz, Chris Burke and Buddy Smith.
“Growing up in a small town it has been evident that if you want to see something created you just might have to be the ones to create it. So that is what we did,” Mintz said.
With five teams playing two nights a week, you can watch hockey most Friday and Saturday nights. Start times are between 6:45 and 7:15. And if you feel like lacing up your skates, she says there is a spare list that anyone 18 and older can join by calling or texting 250-566-1174.
A different paced co-ed hockey is also offered every Sunday at 6:30, and Wednesday at 8:00 and anyone is welcome to drop-in.
Mintz says the league would not be a success without their three refs, Mason Loignon, Mason Pawlechko and Chase Kruysifix, as well as the timekeepers, Emma Mintz, Maddison Bricker and Michelle McNee.
The concession at the arena is not open, but the Valemount Curling Club has a concession open every Friday and Saturday nights with curling starting at 7:00.
The next league games are scheduled for Jan 6th and 7th, 2023.
