Usually traffic at the bike park drops off steeply after the labour day weekend. Summer is over, kids return to school, adults get back to the pressing issues of fall, but this year the Valemount Bike Park in partnership with Tourism Valemount and a bevy of other local organizations and businesses will try to keep the hustle and bustle of the bike park buzzing for one more weekend.
On the September 10th weekend, the Bike Park and friends will hold Fall Fest, a three-day event that includes a $20 per day shuttle pass (with four shuttles working) including lunch provided by BBQ Banditos.
The event starts with a social at 6PM Friday at the Three Ranges Brewing Company where people can register for the following days’ events.
Saturday shuttles begin at 10 am and will run to 4 pm.
There is a chance the long-awaited Tyrannosaurus Rocks green flow trail will open this weekend, and if it does kids under 15 who ride the trail will receive a cool locally-made wooden medallion.
Riders can also take part in a Poker Ride ($20 entry) where they pick up cards at various locations throughout the bike park (on easy or hard trails). The winning pot is 50% of the entry fees.
A balancing competition will take place in the main staging area Saturday at 3pm.
Saturday evening Best Western Plus Valemount Inn and Suites will host an outdoor movie night and social ($10 entry fee includes appetizers and a door prize ticket). A bike concierge and secure storage will be on site. The movie is by Matchstick Productions.
On Sunday VARDA will host a variety of group rides by donation.
The rides will be low risk and pedal focused, but will cater to varying levels of fitness. Pre-registration is required.
