The Valemount Community Bus Society has a new bus and it’s slightly bigger than the last one. The 24-seater has a separate storage area in the back, slightly larger than the 20-seater they had previously. Society member Brian Hanson said the older bus was beginning to show its age, leading to mounting maintenance costs. The group was also told the older bus would not meet the commercial vehicle inspection within a couple of years. He notes the older bus was still safe to operate as a commercial vehicle and passed its inspection when they sold it.
Thanks to generous donations from many groups they were successful. Donors included: SD57, CBT, Regional District, CN, Valemount Community Forest, the Valemount Secondary Grad Class of 2020 and the bus society’s own funds. The bus is often used to shuttle sports teams and school classes to events and activities outside the community. Hanson said people can inquire about renting the bus for community functions by calling the school.
