By Marie Birkbeck, outgoing President
The pandemic and the ever changing Public Health Orders may have changed the way we do business over the last year, but the Royal Canadian Legion Valemount, Branch 266 is still active and trying to find creative ways to continue operating.
One of the major hurdles we have faced recently has been getting permission to hold our Annual General Meeting.
Our AGM is normally held in November, but with COVID looming over us, all in person meetings of the Legion across Canada were forbidden. We had to check off a lot of boxes to get special permission from the BC/Yukon Command to hold an election to replace the outgoing Executive and Board. All members in good standing should have received the election package either in an email or Canada Post. Members are encouraged to come out and cast your ballot on Tuesday April 20 between 6 and 8 p.m. at the Branch.
We are excited to announce that we are bringing a new ‘event’ to town. Starting Wednesday May 5th, and then the first Wednesday of each month throughout the summer to October 6, we will be hosting an In-Car Bingo in the parking lot of the Branch. Proceeds of the Bingo will go to supporting our Veterans programs. Watch for posters and other details to be released soon, and please consider helping out where you can.
Also coming up in May, in lieu of our Annual Spring Auction, is our Outdoor Garage Sale. Watch for more details in the coming weeks. Contact Kerry Pearson to book your space.
