The Village planned to hire a contractor to provide animal control to Valemount, but that plan has fallen through according to Chief Administrative Officer Wayne Robinson.
“As a result, the Village has moved on to its alternative plan to have Public Works offer this service as part
of their regular duties,” said Robinson in a press release last week
Animal control will be back during village business hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, excluding stats.
Residents should call the village office, and, Robinson says, and refrain from flagging down a public works employee for help.
Calls about dangerous dogs should be routed through the RCMP who will coordinate with the village for assistance, he said.
“Although Animal Control cannot help search for lost or missing pets, residents may forward a picture and details about their missing pet to [email protected]. Village staff will post this information on the Village’s social media page, to assist with the location of the pet,” said Robinson.
The owners of impounded animals should contact the village office and pay associated fines before the animal will be released.
“Public works staff cannot release any animals without direction from the Village Office,” he said.
The Animal Control Policy, No 80 and Animal Bylaw No. 700 are on the village website.
