McBride’s Do Not Consume Order was still in effect as of presstime Tuesday morning, but the Village said lower turbidity could mean an end soon.
Since June 24th residents have had to rely on potable water supplied by the Village. The Village trucked water all the way from Prince George as soon as they learned their water source could be compromised. The problem with the water system stemmed from high turbidity – in other words, too much sediment that could interfere with treatment. Prior to the Do Not Consume order, there was a 2-month-long Boil Water Advisory, also due to turbidity.
The Do Not Consume order also ordered restaurants to close due to a concern they would not have enough potable water for the safe handling of food. The order was made in conjunction with Northern Health. Most restaurants have now re-opened.
