The couple moved to the valley in 1958, and raised their family here. About two thirds of their extended family attended a weekend celebration full of love, laughter and food. / TIM ARNOLD & SUBMITTED The Seedy Saturday event in Dunster was an opportunity to gather information about organic gardening practices, with over 10 local presenters, a free book exchange, and displays from the McBride Public Library, Open Gate Garden and a few vendors. Pete Amyoony showcases his impressive inventory of seeds, all of which are less than three years old, due to his seed collecting practices. / JEAN ANN BERKENPAS McBride Healthier Communities, Northern Health, McBride and District Public Library, Robson Valley Community Services and the Seventh Day Adventist Church joined forces to bring a health fair to the community on Sunday Feb 24, 2019. Information about the following topics was available: Free Health Age Analysis, Healthier Community, child safety, immunizations, Better at Home, Mental Health and Addictions, Robson Valley Community Services, cannabis, common disabilities and the library. Presentations included Dr. Taylor Martin (right) who spoke on Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment “MOST,†and Linda Fry who spoke about legal documents every adult should have completed. These documents are a Power of Attorney, Representation Agreement and a Will. “The hope for the event is to bring awareness to health issues in the community, for all ages,†said Judy Shawara, Practice Support Coach with Northern Health. / ANDREA ARNOLD Josh Ball finds his way down Boomstick after an epic snowfall. /ANDRU MCCRACKEN The McBride and District Public Library has decided to extend February. Not the number of days or the weather thank goodness, but the Food for Fee Forgiveness program they have been honouring this month. The library has been accepting food bank donations in the place of overdue fees in February and will continue the program into March. Library Director Naomi Balla-Boudreau says the new deadline is Friday March 15, 2019. Patrons returning overdue books accompanied by non-perishable food items will have the associated amount owing, erased from their account. The library has done a fee forgiveness February for many years. More recently they added the food bank donation element. It gives them an opportunity to help the community in a way different from their regular methods, and helps the food bank at a time in the year when donations seem to dwindle. / ANDREA ARNOLD The McBride Mustangs Sr. Boys Basketball team earned a place at provincials after placing third at Zones in Dawson Creek this past weekend. A silent auction and dinner to raise funds for the trip will be held at the McBride Evangelical Free Church on Sunday March 3, 2019. The silent auction will open at 5:30pm, and dinner will be served at 6:00pm. The team will be one of 16 A teams playing in Langley at the provincial championships beginning March 6, 2019.
