Snowmobilers Kingston and Chris Gehlert of Spruce Grove, Alberta pose with Avalanche Canada senior forecaster Grant Helgeson as they consider avalanche conditions and how to prepare for them following the Backcountry Avalanche Workshop held in Valemount January 17. The session was applicable to both backcountry skiing/boarding and snowmobiling. Attendees learned about the danger of ‘threading the needle’ and the important contribution they can make by posting Mountain Information Network bulletins (essentially snow condition updates) on the Avalanche Canada website.
