On Friday September 28th at approximately 10 pm RCMP were called to a report of a collision involving at least one vehicle on Highway 16 in the Mount Robson Park. Upon RCMP arrival, a man had been transported to Jasper Hospital in serious condition. Although there were no direct witnesses to the incident, the investigation and evidence located on scene led members to believe that the man was struck by an Eastbound Tractor-Trailer unit, which was subsequently located in Alberta. The driver was detained and his vehicle has been seized and is being held for an examination by the local Forensic Identification Unit. This incident is still under investigation, and any witnesses or anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Valemount RCMP.
On October 1st at approximately 3:30 p.m. McBride RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on Highway 16 near Walker Creek Forest Service Road. Initial reports was a b-train gravel truck was on fire, however on arrival RCMP located a Hi-Rail rotary dump truck fully engulfed in flames. Due to the intensity of the fire, Highway 16 was closed in both directions for approximately 90 minutes for safety. The fire is believed to be started by a mechanical fault, and all occupants of the truck were safe.
