Under the direction of teacher Ingrid Stengler, the McBride Secondary senior Drama class brought us Phantom of the Op’ry written by Tim Kelly. In this take on the well-known musical, the lead female, Christine Swansong (Athena Caputo) is the understudy of the esteemed opera singer, Carlotta Barracuda (Carrie Marlow). After hearing Christine proclaim her love for music, the Phantom (Scott Monroe) filled with his love for Christine, sets out to make Christine the star of the show just once, that is, before making her his eternal companion in the dingy tunnels of the Skunk Creek Opera House. Featuring a vaudeville-style variety show, and lots of running into the audience, Phantom of the Opr’ry was a hit. /SYDNEY PHILPOTT
