A major place for adults to drink and eat in McBride is closing. Friday December 15th will be the Gigglin Grizzly Pub’s last day.

“It’s with extremely heavy hearts that we make this announcement. The Gigglin Grizzly Pub will be closing its doors after nine amazing years,” reads a post from the pub’s Facebook page. “Join us as we close an amazing chapter.”

The pub will feature drink and meal specials during its final week of operation. The news was met with shock and sadness in the community.

The business is up for sale and can be found on www.valemountmcbridelistings.com.

The owner declined to comment.

Mayor Loranne Martin said the pub will be missed by locals and tourists.

“Over the last several years we have seen many positive upgrades to the Giggling Grizzly Pub and property. It has become a favourite of locals and tourists visiting the Robson Valley and has become a signature property at the entrance to the Village of McBride,” she said.

“However, we respect the business decisions that managers and owners must make.”

Martin said mayor and council, the Community Economic Development Coordinator and the Regional Manager for Economic Development of the Province of British Columbia are working to transform the challenging situation into a new business opportunity.
