OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Photo by Laura Keil A late-night joyride has damaged the Valemount Secondary School sports field, likely interfering with this spring’s soccer season. Principal Dan Kenkel says it is “disappointing news.†The event occurred between 6pm the night of Nov. 11th and the following morning. In the process of spinning donuts on the thin snow cover, the vandals tore up chunks of turf and dirt. In many places, huge ruts are dug right through the grass and topsoil layer and into the sand below. Kenkel says unfortunately the field is “a high maintenance surface†and it will likely mean the field will be closed for the soccer season this spring. If you noticed a vehicle with mud and grass on the tires or body during that time period, please contact the RCMP.
