The Goat has received preliminary drawings from a reliable source who says an Esso gas station and a drive-through restaurant is in the works for Valemount.
The source says the corner of 5th Avenue and the frontage road, next to the Ramada, will be the new home of an Esso station, and the proponent is awaiting final confirmation on an agreement with Tim Horton’s franchise for the restaurant. The proponent will apply for a building and development permit from the Village once the agreement is finalized.
Meanwhile, W.D. Bruce Enterprises, the owner of the Shell Mighty-Mart on the opposite side of Highway 5, has applied to the Village for a development permit to tear down the existing building and build a larger service station and convenience story in its place. No change in the proposed use of the property is proposed, but a development permit is required because the property is in one of Valemount’s two development permit areas, the Highway Entry and Highway Corridor permit area. Drawings of the new construction on the Oct. 14th agenda show the Subway franchise logo marked out. The owner, BJ Park was not available for comment by press time.
