The McBride Grizzlies Midget Hockey team played host to Prince George last Saturday playing two exhibition games. In game one, Grizzlies goalie, Tristan Quam got the start with the Grizzlies coming out with a 9-2 win. Brett Jones came out of his scoring slump in a big way with a hat trick (3G). Dawson Drader (1G 2A), Keith Shawara (2G 1A) and Rylan Moore (1G 2A) chipped in with three points each. Shawara’s first goal was the result of a nice feed from Billie Littlechild (1A). Scoring was rounded out by Dylan Vizza, Darian Griffin and Shea Braaten. As predicted, an excited Braaten scored her first goal in hockey and was presented the puck after the game. In Game two at the McBride Arena despite having a short bench, Prince George came out skating with the score ending up 3-2 for the Grizzlies after the first period. Prince George stayed close until the third when the Grizzlies took over eventually notching a 10-2 victory. Braaten continued her hot hand scoring the Grizzlies first goal after a sweet feed from Griffin. Not to be outdone, forward Dylan Vizza exploded for 5 goals. Grizzlies forward, Bryden Basran, chipped in with 1 goal and 2 assists. Drader, Griffin and Jones also scored. Jordan Gibson, Julie Vizza, Griffin and Braaten also had assists. Grizzlies goalie, Robert Knezacek, settled down and made some key saves in the third period. Grizzlies defenseman, Austin Gibson, continued his improved play in his own end. Prince George coach, Neil McGillk commented they were four players short due to football playoffs in Prince George and will give the Grizzlies a better game when they attend the Grizzlies home tournament in January. Grizzly coaches would like to thank all who attended to watch both games.
