Local Election Day in BC is Nov. 15th, 2014, and yesterday, Sept. 30th, marked the beginning of the official nomination period.
Nomination packages are already available for candidates interested in running for Council or Regional District Board, as well as School District Trustees. According to the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development’s website, nominations are effective upon delivery to the local chief election officer. Nominations are available for public inspection from the time of delivery, and may be challenged until Oct. 14th.
Nominations are open until 4:00 pm local time on Oct. 10th. Candidates must be finalized by Oct. 17th. If there are more candidates for an office than spots available, election by voting must be declared by Oct. 20th, and if there are fewer candidates, the chief election officer must declare the candidate elected by acclimation.
