On the Monday of the last weekend to mark the end of summer the Valemount RCMP were kept busy with drivers with heavy feet. Numerous violation tickets were handed out for speeding along with four vehicles being impounded for excessive speeding. The four vehicles that were impounded were travelling on Highway 5 with speeds ranging from 155km/h in a posted 100km/h zone to a top speed of 189km/h near Jackman Flats. All drivers were issued Violation Tickets ranging from $368.00 to $483.00 and made other arrangements to make it to their final destination.

On Tuesday evening the McBride RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 16. The vehicle being driven by a male from the Lower Mainland had somehow ended up in the ditch. On Thursday morning the Valemount RCMP were notified that a resident of Valemount just had her vehicle stolen from the Main Street area. The vehicle had been parked with the keys left in the vehicle while the owner had gone inside a building for a few minutes. The vehicle was later located abandoned in Jasper Alberta and later returned to the owner. The Valemount RCMP is reminding citizens not to leave the keys in e their vehicles, even if only for a short period of time. This is the second stolen vehicle in the Robson Valley in the past couple of months where the keys had been left in the vehicle. Stolen vehicles pose a serious risk to public safety as they are used in the commission of other crimes and are almost always driven dangerously with no regards for others on the roads. A check with ICBC also confirmed that insurance will not cover vehicles stolen if the keys are left in the vehicle.
At the same location where the vehicle was stolen from Main Street, a vehicle which had been reported stolen from Langley was recovered. This vehicle was towed back to the Valemount detachment where a forensic examination was conducted. The results of the examination are pending and the vehicle is currently in the process of being returned to the owner in Langley.
