A representative from KidSport in Vancouver is coming to McBride to explain the benefits of starting a local chapter.

KidSport is a national non-profit organization that provides confidential financial assistance to kids for registration fees and equipment so they can play a season of organized sports. It is a network of provincial and territorial chapters and 178 community chapters, says its website www.kidsportcanada.ca. Over 450,000 kids across the country have gotten a chance to play sports since the organization’s creation in 1993. Each chapter manages all operations including fundraising, application intake and grant distribution for its community or province. Prince George, Kamloops, 100 Mile House, Dawson Creek and Kitimat are some of the 41 chapters in BC. There are also provincial chapters that can assist communities that don’t have their own chapters.

Jen Quam from the Robson Valley Support Society confirmed the meeting will be at the Society’s office in McBride, at 3:00 pm on September 22. She says she is hoping to have some interest from outside McBride, and look at making it a Robson Valley chapter, since each community in the valley is so small. She says she’s heard from about half a dozen people who plan to attend the meeting, and another half a dozen who are interested, but can’t make the meeting, although she hasn’t heard from anyone in Valemount yet. Contact Quam at Robson Valley Support Society at 250-569-2266, if you are interested.
