On Monday July 28th, the Valemount RCMP responded to a disturbance at a local hotel. The guests at the hotel had become upset when they demanded that breakfast be included with their stay. It was then realized that the guests had misrepresented themselves by having 7 people stay in their two rooms and had only paid for 4. The guests were asked to leave the hotel and no other issues were reported.
On Monday July 28th, the Valemount RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer unit at the junction of Highway 16 and Highway 5. The semi was unable to navigate the curve onto the Fraser River bridge and struck the crash barriers causing it to roll onto its side. Significant damage was reported to the crash barriers and the bridge railing. The driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Failing to keep Right under section 150(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act.
On Wednesday July 30th, a Valemount member conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 16 observed a vehicle travelling east bound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped after travelling at a speed of 145km/h in the posted 100km/h zone. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days and the driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speeding which carries a fine of $368.00.
On Thursday July 31st, the Valemount RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 5 near Bear Road. A driver travelling north bound on Highway 5 fell asleep and crossed the center line of traffic and side swiped a boat that was being pulled travelling south bound. The driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Failing to Keep Right under the Motor Vehicle Act. The boat trailer sustained extensive damage and was required to be towed off the roadway. No injuries resulted from the collision.
On Thursday July 31st, a male was reported to be naked and walking around the Terry Fox rest area on Highway 16. There have been numerous other complaints of a similar nature in the past with the description of the male matching the previous complaints. This matter is currently under investigation.
In the early hours of August 1st, the Valemount RCMP responded to a family disturbance where a male had become upset and began damaging the inside of the residence and property inside the residence. The male was requested to leave by the home owner and was taken to a friends place for the evening. The home owner did not want charges forwarded in the matter.
On Friday August 1st, a Valemount member conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 5 observed a vehicle travelling south bound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped after being observed travelling at a speed of 172km/h in the posted 100km/h zone. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days and the driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speeding which carries a fine of $483.00.
On Friday August 1st, a Valemount member conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 5 observed a vehicle travelling south bound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped after being observed travelling at a speed of 146km/h in the posted 100km/h zone. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days and the driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speeding which carries a fine of $368.00.
In the early hours of Saturday August 2nd the Valemount RCMP were notified of an intoxicated male who had just left a local drinking establishment and was attempting to fight other patrons who were attempting to go home. The intoxicated combative male was taken into custody without incident and was lodged in cells until such time that he was able to care for himself. The male was issued a Violation Ticket for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place under the Liquor Control Licencing Act.
The Valemount RCMP were notified of a second intoxicated male who was passed out in the lobby of a local hotel. The male who was intoxicated and not able to find a hotel room for the night and figured the comfy chair in the lobby would be a suitable place to sleep for the evening. The male was arrested and lodged in cells and released when he was able to care for himself.
On Saturday August 2nd, the Valemount RCMP responded to a collision on Highway 16 near Red Pass involving a Jeep and a tractor trailer. The driver of the Jeep was attempting to pass the semi when it swerved intentionally into the lane of the passing Jeep and forcing it off the road. The incident was observed by numerous witnesses who were able to identify the tractor trailer unit which continued travelling on Highway 16. The driver of the Jeep and passenger were not injured. This matter is currently under investigation and charges are pending.
On Saturday August 2nd, a speeding vehicle was stopped on Highway 16 in McBride. While speaking with the driver the investigating member observed an open beer in the vehicle along with 5 other cans of beer that were not opened. The driver was issued a Violation Ticket for speeding and open liquor in a motor vehicle. The driver was found to be sober.
On Sunday August 3rd, a McBride member on patrol observed a motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 16. The motorcycle was clocked travelling at a speed of 151km/h in the posted 100km/h zone. The driver was issued a Violation ticket for excessive speeding and no insurance. The motorcycle was impounded for 7 days under the Motor Vehicle Act.
On Saturday evening, the Valemount RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence which resulted in one male being assaulted. One male attended another males residence to confront him regarding a female which both were reported to being in a relationship with. The male who was assaulted did not wish to proceed with charges and had left before police attendance. Alcohol was a contributing factor in the dispute.
On Sunday morning, the Valemount RCMP responded to a loud party of 4th Avenue which had carried on from the previous evening. The owner of the residence apologized for disturbing his neighbours and turned down his music before police departed the location.
On Sunday evening, the Valemount RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision involving a deer on Highway 5. The vehicle suffered major damage with both airbags being deployed. No injuries resulted from the collision. While investigating the collision, a passenger in the vehicle was arrested for being in possession of illegal drugs. A small amount of marihuana was seized from the passenger. Charges are not being recommended.
On Monday August 4th, a McBride member conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 16 stopped a vehicle for exceeding the posted speed limit of 100km/h. While speaking with the driver a strong odour of burnt marihuana was detected from inside of the vehicle. The driver was issued a 24 hour Driving Suspension for being under the influence of drugs while driving, the vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Speeding. A subsequent search of the vehicle locates a small amount of marihuana which was seized.
On Monday August 4th, the McBride RCMP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 16 travelling towards McBride. A B-Train tractor trailer was observed swerving all over the road and crossing the center line. The vehicle was located and the driver was observed to under the influence of alcohol. The driver failed the roadside screening device test and was issued a 90 Day Driving Prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act. The tractor trailer was towed and will be impounded for 30 days. The male driver was also found to be on court conditions of not to consume alcohol and charges will be recommended for breach of his conditions.
With the heavy volume of traffic which was anticipated due to the long weekend, the Robson Valley Regional RCMP dedicated additional resources to patrol Highway 5 and Highway 16. As a result of the dedicated enforcement, 4 drivers were caught driving in excess of 45kms/h in the posted 100km/h zones and subsequently had their vehicles impounded for 7 days and were issued violation tickets under the motor vehicle act for Excessive Speeding which carries a fine of $368.00. In total, the Robson Valley Regional RCMP issued 150 Violation Tickets for numerous offences under the motor vehicle act over the long weekend.
