The Robson Valley recently came together in support for cancer patient Bonnie Barnett. Bonnie was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer and is currently recovering from a major surgery while undergoing radiation treatments in PG. Hosting a slo-pitch tournament and dance, followed by a raffle donation from Matchett Welding a total of $6050 was raised to help pay for accommodations, travel, future check-ups and small surgeries Bonnie will undergo in the near future.
When I started putting the word out for plans of a fundraiser for Bonnie, the feedback was profound. I had people come to me and ask if they can help or donate to the cause. I was blown away by the support offered in the valley. Something I am proud of.
I would like to thank all the businesses who helped with the raffle and donated to the slo-pitch tournament. I would like to show recognition to Three Range Brewery, Valemount Stone Company, CN, and Valemount Curling Club for their support in making the slo-pitch tournament a success. I would like to show appreciation to the Matchett boys for their very talented creation of the wanted fire-pit ring. The proceeds of the fire-pit ring totaled half of the fundraiser’s profits.
A big thank you to Marian Plummer and Sarah Rich who dedicated their time and efforts to make the weekend a success. The team effort was greatly appreciated!
Winners of the tournament were Honey Nut Ichiro’s for first place and Plan B for second place. Winner of the fire pit ring was Allie Keeley.
