A male Rufous Hummingbird pauses at a feeder before continuing on his rounds. Jewel-bright visitors to the valley at this time of year, they can be encouraged to stay for a while and maybe nest with the provision of feeders (boil one part white sugar only, to four parts water, for a homemade nectar). They need spiderweb to build nests with- a great excuse to be sloppy about cleaning up those cobwebs!
