The McBride RCMP successfully arrest man after attempting to ram police vehicle and assaulting police officers during arrest.
On Saturday July 5, 2014 a McBride RCMP member observed a gold colour Chevrolet Blazer travelling above the posted speed limit on Highway 16. When the member attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the suspect vehicle it took off at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was observed turning onto a gravel road east of McBride where it did several donuts before proceeding at a high rate of speed.
At that time the police officer pulled over to the side of the roadway and did not continue following the vehicle because of the dangerous manner it was being driven. A short time later the vehicle drove towards the parked police vehicle and swerved at the police vehicle narrowly missing it.
Additional members from the McBride and Valemount RCMP were called to assist and quickly located the suspect vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at the stop sign on the frontage road in McBride.
The suspect vehicle continued on to a dead end street where the man driver resisted arrest and assaulted two police officers before a bystander assisted in taking the man into police custody. The man driver from Alberta was taken to the Valemount Medical Clinic as it appeared he was suffering a mental health episode and was committed under the Mental Health Act by the attending doctor for further assessment.
The man is facing numerous charges under the Criminal Code including resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Anyone who witnessed the incident involving the gold colour Chevrolet Blazer is asked to contact the McBride RCMP at 250-569-2255.
