One hundred and sixty-seven entrants in the BC High School South Rodeo vied for a last scoring chance before provincials last weekend, including two local contestants, Diquita Cardinal and Daniella Rauter.
Shaun Greenhough of Penticton was the only competitor on bareback, but was one of seven to try their hand riding bulls.
Rachel Kerr, one of the high scorers from last years event, put in another good show in barrel racing. It was Daniela Rauter and her horse’s first time racing in competition, and they finished respectably. It was a first event for Daquita Cardinal as well, and she was one of only 5 to place in breakaway roping, out of 28 competitors.
Valemountain Days Pageant contestants helped out in the concession, selling 50/50 tickets, and even with the goat handling. Left to right: Darci Peever, Courtney Byford, Taylor Clark, Denice Kapungu, Shae-Lynn Carlson, Taylor Beallie and Cypris Arnston. Alex MacDonald wasn’t available on Saturday, but helped out on Sunday.
