In an effort to better keep the community informed the Robson Valley Regional RCMP will be providing weekly press releases to the local papers. The list is not inclusive of all calls of service the local RCMP detachments receive, but provides a cross section of what is happening in the Robson Valley.
During the week of March 17th to the 23rd, the Valemount RCMP along with the Robson Valley Search and Rescue were called to three separate incidents. The first call was received on March 19th when two youth were reported missing near Swift Creek where they had gone hiking. A ground Search and Rescue team quickly located the two youth who had gotten lost when they ventured off of the trail that they had been on. The youth were not injured but were taken to the Valemount Medical Clinic as a precaution.
On March 22nd, an inReach Satellite message was received from two snowmobilers in the Allen Creek area which raised concerns due to the nature of the message. The location of the activation was a concern as it came from a known area prone to avalanches. An aerial search by helicopter revealed that there wasn’t anybody in distress and was later deemed that the message had been sent in error.
On March 23rd, a call was received regarding an injured snowmobiler who had crashed into a tree and was pinned between the tree and his snowmobile. The male suffered a possible broken shoulder and needed to be airlifted by helicopter due to the location of the incident. The male was taken to the Valemount Medical Clinic for assessment and treatment.
On March 22nd, the Valemount RCMP responded to a report of a domestic assault which was taking place inside a residence. As a result of the investigation, a male was arrested at the scene and was lodged and later released on conditions and a future court date. Alcohol was considered to be a factor in the incident.
