In an effort to better keep the community informed the Robson Valley Regional RCMP will be providing weekly press releases to the local papers. The list is not inclusive of all calls of service the local RCMP detachments receive, but provides a cross section of what is happening in the Robson Valley.
During the afternoon of January 27, an officer conducting speed enforcement along Highway 16 near Valemount stopped a compact car which was caught travelling at 151 km/hr in a posted 100 km/hr zone. The adult driver from Alberta was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for Excessive Speeding and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. The officer subsequently gave the driver a ride back into Valemount so he could arrange alternative transportation to get back home to Alberta.
On January 28, at 1:00 A.M., Valemount RCMP received a call of a drunk man on board the Greyhound bus that was travelling toward the village. The drunk man was trying to pick fights with people onboard the bus, however when the bus pulled into Valemount, an officer immediately arrested him and lodged him in a cell. Police also determined that this man had a warrant for his arrest out of Vancouver and when he was sober later in the morning, he was released before a Justice of the Peace to answer to his charges in Vancouver at a later date.
During the evening of January 31, an officer from McBride attended to a residence along Dominion Street after a home owner observed suspicious footwear impressions in the snow. It appeared the suspect might have been casing out the property, however no break in took place. Anyone who has information regarding this or similar incidents, is asked to contact Cst. On February 1, McBride RCMP attended to a single vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 16 and 1st Avenue. The adult female driver claimed she had her cruise control set on her vehicle and as she was entering the village, she suddenly made a turn onto 1st Avenue because she had to go to the washroom. She unfortunately lost control of her vehicle on the ice and slid right into the ditch. Fortunately, seatbelts were worn by all occupants in the vehicle and nobody was injured. The female driver was served a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle.
