In an effort to better keep the community informed the Robson Valley Regional RCMP will be providing weekly press releases to the local papers. The list is not inclusive of all calls of service the local RCMP detachments receive, but provides a cross section of what is happening in the Robson Valley.
On December 23, 2013 Valemount RCMP were dispatched to a multiple vehicle collision on Hwy 16 near Moose Lake. The parties involved had already left the scene, some to Jasper hospital for minor injuries. The vehicles were towed from the scene as a traffic hazard. The matter is still under investigation.
On December 23, 2013 McBride RCMP located a male who was wanted on an outstanding Warrant for Breach of Undertaking out of Prince George. The male, an 18 year old McBride resident, was arrested and transported to Prince George by RCMP.
On December 24, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of an overdue traveller in the Valemount area. Police located the male who spent the night at a local hotel after stopping as he was tired.
On December 25, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to report of a suicidal male near Tete Jaune. The male was located and apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to McBride hospital where he was held for further assessment.
On December 27, 2013 Valemount RCMP stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance after an odour of marihuana was detected from inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was revealed a small amount of marihuana seeds and paraphernalia. The driver was suspended from driving for a period of 24 hours due to recent use of marihuana and the vehicle was towed.
On December 27, 2013 Valemount RCMP attended a domestic dispute. Both parties had been drinking and an argument ensued over money. Police attended and both parties calmed down and separated. No charges are being pursued at this time and the dispute was only verbal and no threats or physical altercation occurred.
On December 27, 2013 McBride RCMP received a report of a stolen snowmobile from Museum Rd. The snowmobile was later recovered near 4th Ave. The matter is still under investigation.
On December 27, 2013 McBride and Valemount attended a head on collision on Hwy 16 near Read Rd. A east bound minivan lost control on slush covered roads and crossed the centerline striking a west bound plow truck. The occupants of the vehicles were transported to McBride hospital for various injuries. The female driver of the minivan remains in Prince George hospital in intensive care.
On December 28, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to a single vehicle collision on Hwy 16 near the Moose River Bridge. The semi’s trailer slid sideways on icy roads and caught the ditch, pulling the tractor unit in with it. A female passenger was transported to Valemount with minor injuries by BC Ambulance.
On December 28, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to a single vehicle collision on Hwy 16 near the Alberta border. The west bound vehicle lost control on icy roads and rolled in the ditch. None of the occupants were injured in the crash.
On December 28, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of an avalanche in the Clemina area involving a snowmobiler. It was determined that the snowmobiler was not trapped and was able to ride his sled out. BC Ambulance attended the parking area to assess him for injuries.
On December 28, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to a 2 vehicle collision on Hwy 16 near Howard Rd. A vehicle rear ended a BC Hydro truck. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the Valemount clinic by BC Ambulance for minor injuries.
On December 28, 2013 Valemount RCMP attended a single vehicle collision on Hwy 16 near Tete Jaune. A pick-up truck had rolled in to the ditch. The two occupants were not injured in the crash and transported to Valemount by RCMP.
On December 28, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to a single vehicle roll over on Hwy 16 near Tete Jaune. A Chevy Avalanche had rolled after losing control on icy roads. Upon arrival the driver and passengers were out of the vehicle and police extinguished a small fire in the engine compartment.
On December 28, 2013 McBride RCMP attended a single vehicle tanker roll over on Hwy 16 west of McBride. The tanker truck lost control while west bound on icy roads and rolled in the ditch. CVSE and LDM also attended and it was determined that the load, non-toxic cleaning solution, was still secure. The tankers contents were retrieved the following day and the vehicle was removed from the ditch.
On December 28, 2013 McBride RCMP received notification of a SPOT activation requesting help near Crescent Spur. Robson Valley Search and Rescue was activated as well as Emergency Management BC. A helicopter was used to attend the GPS coordinates of the distress signal and a trapper was located uninjured. The trapper’s snowmobile broke down and he called for assistance knowing that he would not make it out on his own as he was more than 50 km from his vehicle.
On December 29, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of an assault. The matter is still under investigation as police still need to speak with other parties involved.
On December 29, 2013 McBride RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle collision. A vehicle was turning around in the Village parking lot when the driver misjudged the distance to a cement barricade that was covered in snow. The driver was not injured, but the vehicle was high centered and suffered extensive under carriage damage. Alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.
On December 29, 2013 McBride RCMP received a report of an overdue snowmobiler who had got separated from his group. RCMP were in the process of activating Search and Rescue when the snowmobiler was accounted for and safe.
