In an effort to better keep the community informed the Robson Valley Regional RCMP will be providing weekly press releases to the local papers. The list is not inclusive of all calls of service the local RCMP detachments receive, but provides a cross section of what is happening in the Robson Valley.
On December 8, 2013 BC Conservation Service was conducting an investigation with respect to an illegally harvested moose. The investigation subsequently revealed the male was in possession of a firearm without a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL). The seized firearm was turned over to police for follow-up. Police would like to remind the public that although you are no longer required to register long guns with the CFRO, you are still required to have a valid PAL to purchase, acquire, and possess all firearms and ammunition. Anyone in possession of a firearm without a valid PAL may be subject to charges under the Criminal Code.
On December 9, 2013 Valemount RCMP attended a single vehicle collision near Bone Creek. The female was uninjured. While attending the first crash, police came across another single vehicle collision at the same location in the opposite ditch. Road conditions were poor at the time of both collisions. The drivers were issued violation tickets for driving at inappropriate speeds relative to the conditions and failing to remain on the roadway.
On December 9, 2013 McBride RCMP were advised of male contacting a female contrary to the conditions of his release from police custody. The male, a 34-year-old McBride resident, was arrested for Breach and is scheduled to attend Court in McBride in January to face this and several other charges.
On December 10, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of a domestic assault that had occurred the previous evening. Police attended and a 54 -year-old Valemount male was arrested for assault and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in January.
On December 10, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of two youth teasing a dog in the neighborhood. The youths’ parent was spoken to about their behaviour.
On December 10, 2013 McBride RCMP were called to assist in locating an elderly male suffering from dementia who had wondered away from the McBride hospital. The male was located by an off-duty paramedic, but then refused to exit the vehicle and go back into the hospital. Police attended and were able to convince the male to go back into the hospital and take his medication.
On December 11, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of property damage on 8th Avenue. Vandals cut an electrical cord to a Christmas tree. Anyone with information is asked to call the Valemount RCMP at 250-566-4466 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
On December 12, 2013 Valemount RCMP attended a single vehicle collision near Mt Robson. The driver, a 48-year-old Edmonton male, had an odour of liquor on his breath and a breath demand was made to the driver. The male refused and was subsequently charged with refusing to provide a breath sample under the Motor Vehicle Act and was issued an Immediate Road Side Prohibition for 90 days. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
On December 12, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to a single vehicle collision near Hargreaves Rd. The vehicle lost control on icy roads and hit the ditch. The driver was not injured in the crash.
On December 12, 2013 McBride RCMP received a report of harassing phone calls. The suspect is known to police and the matter is still under investigation.
On December 13, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of scooter stuck in the snow on Whiskey Fill Rd. Police attended and located a female who appeared disorientated. BC Ambulance Service was called and the female was transported to the Clinic and later released.
On December 14, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of property damage at a local hotel. An intoxicated male had got upset after being removed from the bar and then broke a door. Police located and identified the male. The matter is still under investigation and charges may be pending.
On December 14, 2013 Valemount RCMP were dispatched to a report a report of a stolen trucks from a local hotel. The thieves broke into the Ford trucks and, after getting them started, drove off with them and their trailers (with snowmobiles) smashing through a security gate. The vehicles were later recovered near the old dump. The trucks and trailers were abandoned, but the snowmobiles were transferred to another trailer. RCMP Forensic Identification Section attended and printed the vehicles and trailers. Video surveillance is being examined and the matter remains under investigation. The thieves are targeting 2002-2009 Ford pick-up trucks. Police would like to remind the public that thieves will take the path of least resistance and you can protect yourselves and your property by ensuring doors are locked and items are secured. High visibility theft deterrents such as steering clubs and hidden fuel shut down switches are also very effective.
On December 14, 2013 Valemount RCMP responded to a single tractor trailer collision at the Tete Jaune Bridge. The driver, a 31-year-old Surrey male, lost control of the vehicle and struck the bridge railing. Prior to the vehicle hitting the ditch the driver jumped from the vehicle. The bridge railing and truck suffered extensive damage. The driver was uninjured in the crash and was issued a violation ticket for driving without Due Care as road conditions were good.
On December 14, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to a fight in progress at a local bar. A 36-year-old Valemount male was overtly intoxicated and trying to pick fights with several other patrons striking some of them. A fight ensued between the male and other patrons. Police attended and the male was arrested for Causing a Disturbance and transported to the hospital for injuries he sustained during the altercation. The male was charged with being drunk in public and fined. No criminal charges are being forwarded at this time.
On December 14, 2013 McBride RCMP attended a single vehicle tractor trailer collision near Crescent Spur. The tractor trailer unit lost control on icy roads and flipped onto its side in the ditch. One of the occupants suffered an injury to his knee and was treated at the Prince George hospital.
On December 14, 2013 McBride RCMP were called to a local motel after receiving a report of damage to the room. A door was broken and a fire extinguisher had been discharged in the room. The matter remains under investigation and criminal charges are being contemplated against the Alberta residents.
On December 16, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of a stolen Ford pick-up truck and snowmobiles from a local hotel. The thief had attempted to steal another Ford truck earlier in the evening, but the owner had disabled the truck by means of an ignition interruption device. The thief was scared off by hotel staff, but later returned and stole a different Ford pick-up truck that did not have any anti-theft devices on it. The thief was caught on video surveillance and the matter remains under investigation. Police request that everyone remain vigilant and if you see anything suspicious to call 911.
Christmas is upon us and police would like to remind the public that additional patrols and counter attack check stops will be occurring over the holidays for impaired drivers. If you plan on drinking please arrange for a safe ride home at the beginning of the evening.
