The McBride Grizzlies travelled to Mackenzie, BC for a six-team Bantam tournament Nov. 16th and 17th. In the round robin, the Grizzlies took Game 1 against Mackenzie by the score of 8-2. Game 2 saw a closer contest against Prince George #1 with Grizzlies defenseman, Noah Janecke, scoring a Bobby Orr inspired goal to help seal the win at 4-3. In the first playoff game, Saturday evening against Prince George #2, the Grizzlies cruised to a 9-0 win with goaltender Robert Knezacek getting the shut-out. On Sunday, the championship final saw a rematch between Mackenzie and Grizzlies with the first period ending up scoreless. In the second period, Bryden Basran nabbed a short-handed goal and fired up the bench. The Grizzlies sealed the win with a 7-2 victory. Coaches, Gerry Porrier, Greg Gibson and Brady Knezacek were impressed with the team’s effort especially with four of our new players who improved and developed on the weekend. Organizers of the tournament commented on how well the team conducted themselves on and off the ice, representing McBride well and invited the team back for next year’s tournament.
