Valemount residents will have an opportunity to learn more about services available in the area at an upcoming Open House on Thursday, Nov. 28th, followed by the second “Community Conversations.”
“Last year’s Community Conversations was a great way to connect with the people of Valemount and it helped shape the Village of Valemount’s Five Year Strategic Plan in the weeks that followed,” says Mayor Andru McCracken. “Some of the concerns raised in the Community Conversations fell outside of our jurisdiction but are important topics for us all. This year we are inviting some of our partners to an open house to answer questions and raise awareness around Air Quality, Radon Awareness, Small Business Assistance, Emergency Preparedness, Highways, the Community Forest and the multifaceted role of the Regional District.”
The open house will run from 4-7 pm at the Valemount Community Hall and will feature a number of government organizations who will be sharing information.
Following the open house, residents are encouraged to participate in Community Conversations, focusing on the Strategic Plan for the Village of Valemount and its 14 key priorities. Mayor McCracken and Council will be on hand as well as staff from the Village.
Community Conversations was first held last November as a way for residents to provide feedback to the Village. About 75 residents attended last year, and some of the issues discussed were snow removal, Big Foot Trail maintenance, garbage pickup, upkeep of the Saas Fee property, the possible Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion, and bylaw enforcement.
Valemount’s strategic plan can be found on the Village’s website.
