A plane crash east of Valemount in Hamber Provincial Park claimed the life of a 62-year old man from Vernon July 26th.
Yves Rene, sole occupant of the plane, was apparently taking off from Fortress Lake when his Cessna 182 crashed, a press release from the BC Coroners Service said. An emergency location transmitter signal was sent out from his plane at 1:45pm on July 26th.
Rene had landed on Fortress Lake, an isolated high-altitude lake about 100km due east of Highway 5 at Mt. Monashee.
When search-and-rescue workers arrived at the crash site Rene had already died, the release said.
The Coroners Service, the Transportation Safety Board and RCMP are investigating the death.
