The Valemount Gun Club’s AGM on May 8 was well attended, with plans for the new shooting shed being a hot topic on the agenda.
The club recently received $7,200 in funding from 2 grants and is planning to use $1,000 of their own as well as volunteered time from members to replace the existing shooting shed. Members and volunteers, including the Junior Rangers, met on Saturday May 18 to disassemble and salvage the existing shed, built in the mid to late 1970’s, and leveled and lay out the forms for the new concrete pad. A concrete pad will give a better base for the shooting benches, and will make it easier to do three-position shooting, especially for the Prone position. An existing spot for shooting from natural ground will still be available. If things go well with the construction of the new shed, the club may be able to replace the existing shooting benches later this summer.
The club is also looking into constructing a skeet shooting area, and will look into a possible reciprocal agreement with the Prince George Rod and Gun Club that would allow Valemount members to use the Prince George club, and vice versa, at no additional cost.
Membership is a great deal at $25 annually (many clubs in BC charge that much for a daily admission). Contact Paul Johnson if you are interested in joining.
