A man is in police custody after an incident involving a rifle.
Last Tuesday, Valemount RCMP pulled a vehicle over on Highway 16, some 22 km west of Tete Jaune between Dunster and Small River.
The driver reportedly exited his vehicle, armed himself with a rifle and approached the police officer.
RCMP can confirm that one shot was fired by police but no one was injured. The male was successfully wrestled to the ground by two RCMP officers and taken into police custody. He was transported to the McBride Hospital for a medical assessment.
“The investigation into this matter is ongoing” said Cst. Lesley Smith, North District Media Relations Officer. “The Independent Investigations Office was notified but will not be conducting their own investigation.”
