Valemount RCMP are investigating a fire that gutted a trailer and truck at the Griffin Sawmill campsite near the Valemount marina. Valemount RCMP say the fire is likely not arson.
The truck and trailer belonged to a man who works in Alberta who was camping at the lake. The man was apparently in bed in the trailer when the fire broke out. He exited the trailer and walked up the road to where he could get cell service. By the time police responded, the truck and trailer were ungulfed.
Valemount RCMP Const. Simon Bentley said the fire may have been caused by an electrical problem.
A fire investigation expert from Edmonton and the insurance adjuster visited the site to try to determine what had happened.
The fire investigator said he waits for the signs to show themselves by keeping his eyes open and being patient.
Few possessions were recognizable in the debris – a cooking pot lay on top of a tangle of scrap metal, which may have been a stove.
