It was a tense and favourable weekend for Robson Valley sports lovers.
Spectators witnessed the McBride boys and Valemount girls senior basketball teams qualify for provincials at home during the North Central Zone Championships. Both teams placed second and will head to provincials later in March. The Valemount senior girls team beat out Bella Coola 65 to 38 in the second game. They lost to Cedars Christian school 71-42 early that day. The McBride boys (and two McBride girls as there is no girls team this year) lost 92-87 in a nail biting game against Fort Nelson. McBride led in points for most of the game, but after a number of fouls slipped behind at the end. They beat Northside to claim second place.
A number of Valemount girls players are injured and will not be able to compete at provincials. In their final game, Kate Soucy broke her wrist. Despite these setbacks, the team will follow coach Tim Nusse to provincials in mid-March.
